How to Get Rid of Water Stains on Tables

A simple water spill on a wood table is inconsequential when wiped up immediately. But water left to sit on the surface or transferred onto the wood by hot, steamy dishes ends up absorbed into the wood. Once this occurs, a filmy white stain develops and takes away from the table's appearance. To remove the water stain successfully, you must get the moisture out of the wood. Commercial wood cleaning projects help tackle water stains, but you can achieve the same results, for less money, by using home remedies. Does this Spark an idea?

    Mix equal parts white toothpaste and baking soda in a bowl. Stir to form a paste that will remove water stains. Rub the paste onto the stained portion of the wood table in a circular motion.

    Dampen a cloth with water and wipe off the paste to remove it and any water stain that has lifted.

    Apply 2 tbsp. of mayonnaise to remaining water stains on the table. Smooth the mayonnaise over the surface before laying a paper towel over the mayonnaise. Allow the mayonnaise to sit on the surface for 15 minutes to draw out the water stain.

    Wipe the mayonnaise off the wood table with a clean, dry cloth. Buff the table to remove the water stain.

    Remove oily residue from the wood with a wood cleaner. After cleaning, dry the table with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture.
