Can I Decorate a Glass Table?

Can I Decorate a Glass Table?

Glass tables offer exciting opportunities for decorating. As a glass table is see-through, you can decorate underneath as well as above the table. Incorporate a glass table into all the rooms of your home, and emphasize the visibility offered as you plan your decorating design. Does this Spark an idea?

Decorate Underneath the Table

Some round glass kitchen tables contain a small rounded shelf section underneath the center of the glass in the frame. Use this area to place a small bouquet of live flowers, visible from above the table, or weave strands of a live ivy plant inside the shelf and around the table legs. For tables without a shelf, wind artificial vines or flowers up the legs of the table, and tape the flowers to the underside of the tabletop with the flowers to the side.

Decorate Above the Table

Rather than hide the glass table under a linen cloth, dress up a kitchen table by placing a crisscross of festive ribbons on it with the plates set between the ribbons. Or decorate a glass foyer table with rose petals, stands of greenery and a couple of candles. A glass side table between two chairs can hold a collection of crystal items, such as a glass chess set or a couple of glass figurines while a glass coffee table can hold a small glass urn containing a shell collection.

Decorate Chemically

A glass table may be chemically altered to fit your design theme. For example, if you want to decorate in a coastal theme, tape a stencil to the table of sea shells or a mermaid, and apply an etching cream. Or add a linear frost design to the table. The application differs between etching and frosting as etching is left on and removed while a frost application remains on the table for a 24-hour period. Both are permanent.

Decorate With Lights

A glass table allows you to backlight a display on the table. A glass vase on the table containing colored glass flowers can sparkle and light up the room, especially with the addition of iridescent or pearl glass beads or cut crystals. Illuminate the beauty of these items from below by attaching a strand of rope lights underneath the table and around the perimeter. Or you could place a small uplight under the table to achieve the same effect.
