Homemade Farm Party Decorations

Throw a farm party for guests of honor of all ages. This is a great party theme for kids from the first birthday party to one of the last. Farmers and future farmers will love being surrounded by animals and barn decorations that can easily be made at home with a little creativity and patience. Does this Spark an idea?

Wall Decorations

Cover the walls in great backdrops that can be made easily with the right equipment. Borrow an overhead projector or elmo projector, which can project opaque images on the walls, from the local library or ask to use one at a school. Cover the walls of the party room in plain butcher paper or sheets and project images of barns and fields on them. Trace and color with paint, crayons or leave blank for guests to help fill in. Guest can also make an animal to add to the barnyard scene. Add a few bales of hay along the base of the mural and you are set.

Outside Decorations

Ask for a large empty box from an appliance store such as from a refrigerator or washing machine. Use paint and markers to turn it into a small barn. Add cardboard animals or even stuffed farm animals. Set bales of hay around the barn and add a few fence pieces made from gardening stakes. Glue farm animals cut from poster board on stakes and push into the hay bales or the ground. Wheelbarrows or red wagons can be filled with hay or make a scarecrow to sit in them. For an evening party, hang mason jars from trees or set them along porch rails and fences with votive candles inside.

Table Decorations

Cover the tables with old blankets or red checkered table clothes. Make a centerpiece with unshucked stalks of corn, gourds or root vegetables in a large bowl or platter. Roll bandanas or paper napkins around utensils and tie with a small piece of raffia. You can also put utensils in clean mason jars and tie with a bandana around the top rim. Of course, a great barn or farmyard cake or cupcakes can become part of the table decorations as well as brown paper favor bags. Just fold down the top, punch two holes and thread a piece of raffia through for a rustic look.

Photo Scene

Set up a great photo scene that also doubles as a party decoration. Place a saddle on a sawhorse or bench. Place the saddle next to a tree or against the mural if you are inside. Add a coiled rope on the horn of the saddle and allow your guests to sit one at a time on the saddle for a photo. You can also get for another large box to cut and paint into a tractor where the guest sits on a stool slightly shorter than the top of the tractor. These photos can be printed during the party and set in a foam frame for a great party favor.
