Graduations are one-of-a-time occasions that deserve celebration. With the celebration comes tables to serve food, around which guests sit, eat and chat. Decorating tables can start with tablecloths or crepe paper stripes down the middle of the tables in school colors. Echo school colors in napkins and candles as you use the symbols of graduation, photographs and celebratory touches to decorate graduation tables.
Symbols of Graduation
Use the symbols of graduation to decorate tables at a graduation party. These include mortar boards, degrees or certificates, tassels and/or scrolls representing that coveted achievement. Add the graduation date as confetti on the tables or around the centerpieces on the tables. Use the symbols of graduation surrounded with greenery and candles in the graduation colors. Fill low baskets with greenery or crepe paper, tucking in symbols of graduation with a tassel hanging off one side. Use large mortar boards in the same color as the graduation caps. Flank with candles on either side.
All About Pictures
Copy pictures of the graduate from birth to graduation. Include photographs with members of the family and friends. Include special moments, such as baptism, first day of school, winning awards, etc. Lay the photographs out on the tables. You can intersperse the photographs or categorize the photographs by table, with one table showing photographs of the graduate as a baby, another from preschool and others from the school years. In the center of each table, place a school logo. Cover the tables with clear plastic sheets to protect the photographs as you show them off.
Cakes & Greetings
Instead of creating one large graduation cake, make smaller cakes for each table that double as a centerpiece. Frost each cake in school colors and include a congratulations to the graduate and the date. Flank each cake with photos, graduation symbols, awards or other school or life mementos. Include plates and plastic forks, mints and nuts. Include an open tablet at each table in school colors for guests to sign their names and include memories, greetings and well wishes.
Career Moves
Decorate the tables with the symbols of what the graduate plans to study for a high school graduation party or the field in which the college graduate received a degree. If the career is medicine, decorate a table with stethoscopes, a nurse's hat, a doctor's bag, etc. If law is the career choice, decorate with gavels and copies of the Constitution. For a career in music, teaching, singing or production, decorate the tables with miniature instruments, such as pianos, guitars, drums or saxophones, and with musical notes, sheet music or other musical symbols.
