How to Make a Craft Stick Picnic Table

Creating miniature furniture and decorative settings takes fine skills of construction and presents challenges to the new craftsman. Craft sticks make inexpensive construction material and most craft stores carry them in large packages so you'll have plenty to experiment with. With a few tools and some good instructions you can create various miniature pieces, including a picnic table.

Cut two small craft sticks in half with a hobby knife, creating four half-sticks.

Take two small craft sticks and lay them parallel. Put one half-stick at each end of the parallel sticks and one half-stick in the middle so all five pieces are up on their edge to form a box shape with a connecting piece in the middle. Glue the pieces together with hot glue.

Lay four large craft sticks flat, side by side and glue them together to make a flat tabletop. Set the box frame on the tabletop and center it. Glue the frame to the tabletop.

Glue one small craft stick at a 45-degree angle at both outside corner edges of the box frame at the table end to form the table legs. Use a protractor to set the angle of the table legs. Cross them to form an "x." Where the legs cross, glue the sticks together to reinforce the angle and provide good support to the table. Repeat on the other side.

Glue one large craft stick flat across the legs just below the juncture point so it extends equidistant beyond the edges of the table. Repeat on the other side.

Lay two large craft sticks flat, side by side on top of the extended craft sticks to form a bench seat for your table. Glue into place. Repeat on the other side of the table.

Stain or cover the picnic table with a cloth scrap.
